Varicose veins treatment
Assessment and surgical treatment of varicose veins — the swollen, twisted leg veins that can cause aching, heaviness and skin changes.
Varicose veins are enlarged, twisted veins — usually in the legs — that develop when the one-way valves inside them stop working properly. They can cause aching, heaviness, swelling, itching and, over time, skin changes or ulcers. While mild cases are managed with lifestyle measures and compression stockings, troublesome or progressing varicose veins are treated surgically.
Dr. Sabir assesses the veins clinically and with ultrasound to map the faulty valves, then advises on the most appropriate treatment. Surgery removes or ties off the affected veins to relieve symptoms and improve the appearance of the leg.
Proper assessment
Clinical and ultrasound mapping of the faulty leg veins.
Symptom relief
Treatment to ease aching, heaviness and swelling.
Prevents complications
Timely treatment reduces the risk of skin changes and ulcers.
The varicose veins pathway
Recovery after varicose vein surgery is usually straightforward. Compression stockings are worn for a period afterwards, and most patients return to light activity within one to two weeks. Dr. Sabir provides individual advice on activity, leg care and follow-up.
- 1
Clinical assessment and ultrasound to map the faulty vein valves.
- 2
A treatment plan discussed with the patient, including non-surgical measures where suitable.
- 3
Surgery under anaesthesia to remove or tie off the affected veins.
- 4
Discharge with compression and a clear recovery and follow-up plan.
Varicose Veins — your questions answered
Are varicose veins just a cosmetic problem?+
Not always — as well as their appearance, varicose veins can cause aching, swelling and skin changes, and occasionally lead to ulcers. Assessment determines whether treatment is advisable.
Do I need surgery, or will stockings help?+
Mild varicose veins are often managed with compression stockings and lifestyle measures. Surgery is advised for troublesome or progressing veins. Dr. Sabir will recommend the right option after assessment.
Is varicose vein surgery painful?+
Discomfort is usually mild and well controlled, and most patients recover quickly with compression support.
Can varicose veins come back?+
Varicose veins can recur, and new veins may develop over time. Proper assessment and treatment reduce this risk; Dr. Sabir will advise on prevention.
How soon can I walk and work?+
Walking is encouraged soon after surgery, and most patients return to light work within one to two weeks.
