Hepatobiliary surgery
Surgical management of liver, bile-duct and complex gallbladder disease — an area calling for careful assessment and experienced judgement.
Hepatobiliary (HPB) surgery deals with the liver, gallbladder and bile ducts. These organs sit close together and share a delicate blood and bile-drainage system, so conditions here — from bile-duct stones and strictures to complex gallbladder disease and liver lesions — call for precise assessment and careful surgical judgement.
Dr. Sabir's practice includes hepatobiliary and gastrointestinal surgery, supported by decades of operative experience. Care begins with accurate imaging and diagnosis, and each plan is discussed thoroughly with the patient, with complex cases managed in a team setting.
Complex-case experience
Careful surgical judgement for liver and bile-duct disease.
Accurate diagnosis
Imaging-led assessment before any surgical plan.
Team approach
Complex hepatobiliary problems managed collaboratively.
Conditions treated
- Bile-duct stones (choledocholithiasis)
- Complex and difficult gallbladder disease
- Bile-duct strictures and obstruction (obstructive jaundice)
- Liver cysts and selected liver lesions
- Gallbladder polyps and suspected gallbladder tumours
- Recurrent biliary problems
The hepatobiliary surgery pathway
Because hepatobiliary conditions vary widely, so does recovery — from a straightforward course after minor procedures to a more involved recovery following major surgery. Dr. Sabir explains the expected pathway for your specific condition and provides close follow-up.
- 1
Detailed imaging (ultrasound, CT/MRI) and blood tests to define the problem.
- 2
A carefully planned approach discussed with the patient, in a team setting for complex cases.
- 3
Surgery under general anaesthesia by the most appropriate technique.
- 4
Monitored recovery with structured after-care and follow-up.
Hepatobiliary Surgery — your questions answered
What is hepatobiliary surgery?+
It is surgery of the liver, gallbladder and bile ducts — organs that are anatomically close and require careful assessment and experienced surgical judgement.
What causes jaundice that might need surgery?+
Obstruction of the bile ducts — for example by stones or a stricture — can cause jaundice. Dr. Sabir uses imaging to find the cause and advise on treatment.
Are bile-duct stones different from gallstones?+
Gallstones form in the gallbladder; some can pass into the bile duct and cause blockage or infection, which may need specific treatment. Assessment clarifies which applies to you.
Are these operations more complex than routine gallbladder surgery?+
Hepatobiliary problems can be more complex, which is why careful imaging, planning and, for difficult cases, a team approach are important.
How do I get assessed?+
Assessment starts with a consultation and imaging. Contact the clinic to arrange an appointment with Dr. Sabir.
